Worth knowing about Hamburg

POPULAR DISTRICTS

Planning a move to Hamburg or within the city?
That is a great choice! Hamburg is a lively, varied city with so much to offer.

At Transporo we know exactly how exciting – and how challenging – a move can be, especially when it comes to choosing the right district. Let’s take a look together at the three most popular districts and the challenges that come with them.

1. St. Pauli
St. Pauli is probably one of Hamburg’s best-known districts. Life pulses here and there is always something to discover – from the Reeperbahn and the harbour to countless bars and clubs, this is where the nightlife lives. The challenge when moving to St. Pauli is above all the high demand for housing. Finding an affordable flat can be genuinely difficult. As a removal company, however, we know the local conditions inside out and can help you make the move run smoothly.

2. Eimsbüttel
Eimsbüttel is a district many people love. With its green parks, cosy cafés and small shops, it has a charming, lively character. The challenge here is that Eimsbüttel is in high demand and rents can be correspondingly steep. Limited parking can be another issue, particularly if you have a lot to move. But don’t worry – we have experience with challenges like these and will find a solution to make your move as smooth as possible.

3. Ottensen
Ottensen is a district that has become steadily more popular in recent years. Here you will find a successful mix of culture, shopping and a relaxed atmosphere. The challenge when moving to Ottensen lies in the narrow streets and the many one-way systems, which can make manoeuvring removal vans difficult. That is no problem for us: our experienced removal teams are well prepared to overcome obstacles and complete your move successfully.

Whichever of these popular districts you choose, we are here to help with advice and hands-on support.
We take care of every logistical challenge so you can concentrate entirely on your new home in Hamburg. Our aim is to make your move as pleasant and stress-free as possible. So pack your boxes (or let us pack them for you) and let’s take on Hamburg together!

Moving costs in Hamburg

One of the most common questions is surely: “How much does a move in Hamburg cost?”

On average you can expect certain cost factors that apply to most moves in Hamburg.
Removal van: Hiring a van for a day can cost between €80 and €180, depending on size and hire period. For larger moves you may want to consider a lorry. Fuel comes on top of that.
Removal helpers: The number of helpers you need affects the cost. Per helper you can expect an average hourly rate of €20 to €40. This can vary depending on the size and timeframe of your move.
Packing materials: Moving boxes, packing materials and tape come to roughly €150 to €200 on average. Naturally this also depends on the amount and size of what you need to pack. Allow roughly one box per square metre.
Furniture assembly and dismantling: If you need help assembling and dismantling your furniture, additional costs apply. The exact price depends on the number of items and the time involved. Per fitter you can expect €25 to €50 per hour.
Insurance: It is advisable to take out moving insurance to protect your property during transport. Costs vary depending on the scope of the policy.
At Transporo we understand that every move is unique, which is why we offer tailored solutions to meet your specific requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Below we have set out the most important FAQs for you, so that no questions are left unanswered and you can sit back and relax on moving day.

journey

Process

How many moving boxes do I need?

The number of moving boxes you need varies and depends on your possessions. A rough rule of thumb is one moving box per square metre. Minimalists will probably need somewhat fewer, and collectors considerably more.

Can Transporo pack my moving boxes?

If you ask us to when booking your move, we can pack and unpack the moving boxes for you. Please contact us at least 14 days before the moving date so we can prepare a suitable quote. Details of the services can be found in your order confirmation. Transporo is happy to take this on for you!

How many removal helpers carry out the move?

The number of removal helpers you need depends on various factors, such as the volume of the move, the distance between your old and new home and any additional services booked.

How long will my move take?

The duration of the move depends on many aspects, such as the quantity of goods to be transported, the distance between the departure and destination addresses, whether additional services were booked, and traffic levels.

Which furniture has to be dismantled for the move?

If you are unsure whether a piece of furniture is too large, too heavy or too bulky to transport in one piece, ask yourself a few questions. Does it fit through all doors, hallways and corridors? Are there tight corners and stairwells to negotiate? Is the item heavier than 80 kg? Is it very tall or very wide? If you answered “yes” to any of these, the piece will probably have to be dismantled. If you are unsure, please contact our customer service. We are happy to help.

Does Transporo dismantle my furniture, or do I have to?

If you would like us to dismantle and reassemble your furniture, this is available for an additional charge. Please note that we only assemble furniture that we dismantled beforehand. If you handle the dismantling and assembly yourself, please make sure all furniture is already taken apart when our partner arrives.

What happens if I need more services on moving day than stated in the order?

To give you a stress-free and cost-effective move, we plan our capacity so that you get the best possible price. If you want to transport more than ordered on moving day, that can sometimes be possible. However, additional costs will apply, which may be higher than changing the order in advance. We therefore ask you to check your order after booking and to let us know of any changes in good time.

What is the service report for?

Please fill in the service report together with our partner on moving day and sign it. The service report documents the services provided by our partner and records any pre-existing damage and any new damage. It is an important document, as it serves as evidence and ensures your protection.

Who do I contact if I have questions on moving day?

On moving day you can reach our customer service on +49 40 / 334 692 16.

No-parking zones

When do I need a no-parking zone?

No-parking zones help ensure your move runs comfortably and smoothly. In some places parking is not possible at all without one. Please check the local conditions at both the departure and destination addresses. If no zone has been applied for, you must provide a parking space for our partner during the move.

When is the no-parking zone set up?

The no-parking signs are usually put up about two days before your move

Can I add or remove a no-parking zone after booking?

If you want to add a no-parking zone, we need at least 14 days’ notice. Please let us know in good time before the move if you would like one. Once booked, no-parking zones unfortunately cannot be cancelled.

Postponement / cancellation

Can I postpone my moving date?

Yes, the moving date can be changed after the contract is concluded, provided the new date is at least 14 days after the date of the change. If the moving day is less than 14 days away, it can unfortunately no longer be changed.

What does it cost to cancel a move that has already been booked?

A cancellation fee of 20% of the agreed fee applies if you cancel at least 14 days before the agreed moving date. If you cancel later than 14 days but at least 8 days before the agreed date, a cancellation fee of 50% applies. If you cancel later than 8 days before the agreed date, a cancellation fee of 100% applies.

Liability

To what extent is Transporo liable?

Transporo is liable only for intentional damage or damage caused by gross negligence – and then only if Transporo cannot demonstrate that all care required in the circumstances was taken to prevent damage of that kind, or that the damage would have occurred even if that care had been taken.

Transporo’s liability for damage to or loss of the removal goods is limited to the value of the items concerned, with their current value being decisive. If the item is still usable, Transporo’s liability is limited in every case to the cost of any possible repair or compensation for loss of value, excluding any replacement.

Any liability of Transporo for damage caused by delay is limited to the amount of the moving price.

Overall, and irrespective of the legal basis, any liability of Transporo is limited to EUR 25,000.

Transporo offers customers optional moving insurance. This insures the customer’s movable property largely at replacement value. The sum insured is EUR 250,000.

Can I add the optional moving insurance after booking my move?

No, the optional moving insurance must be selected when completing the booking. It cannot be added later.

What deadlines apply for submitting damage claims?

After the move, a complaint must always be made in text form and describe the damage or services not provided clearly enough. Take the opportunity to record any damage on the service report on moving day itself.

The following deadlines apply for reporting damage from delivery:
Externally visible damage: 1 day
Damage not externally visible: 3 days

Invoice

How do I receive my invoice?

You will receive the invoice for your move by email, sent to the address you used for your quote request or booking. If you can no longer find your invoice, don’t hesitate to contact customer service. We will be happy to send you a copy.

Can I change the invoice recipient for my order?

If after booking you need to provide a declaration of cost coverage from your employer, health insurer or an authority, our customer service will be happy to change the invoice recipient for your order.
